History:
The class E 458.0 (110) electric locomotive was produced in 1971 as the first type of the ŠKODA II. generation locomotives, designed to replace diesel engines for station shunting duties. Successful trials were followed by the serial production of 53 units in 1972/1973.

Later, the improved class E 458.1 (prototype of this model) followed, where the original resistance control was replaced by thyristor control (35 units manufactured in 1982). Besides shunting, these locomotives are also used for light mainline service.
